Elbow Dislocation with Complete Triceps Avulsion

چکیده
Radio-ulnar Fracture dislocation of the elbow is a high-energy trauma which can be associated with significant ligamentous injury in adults. We report an unusual triad of injury in a patient with avulsion injury of the triceps. This injury can be thought of as a variant of "terrible triad" with dislocation of radio-ulnar joint, radial head fracture, and medial collateral ligament injury with avulsion of the triceps. Elbow has to be stabilized with early repair of the ligaments for a successful outcome.

Terrible triad elbow fracture-dislocation with triceps and flexor-pronator mass avulsion.
Terrible triad elbow injuries, consisting of fractures of the radial head and coronoid with ulnohumeral dislocation, are challenging to treat. They require a comprehensive understanding of the complex anatomy of the elbow to effectively treat all of the pathology and create a stable, congruent joint. The authors present a case of a terrible triad injury with avulsion of the triceps and flexor-p...
متن کاملUlnar nerve dislocation and snapping triceps syndrome: diagnosis with dynamic sonography--report of three cases.
Initial experience with the use of dynamic sonography of the elbow for diagnosing ulnar nerve dislocation and snapping triceps syndrome is reported. Cases of three consecutive patients who underwent sonographic evaluation of the elbow and subsequent open elbow surgery for symptomatic ulnar nerve dislocation were reviewed. Dynamic sonography of the elbow was used to aid in the accurate diagnosis...
متن کاملUnstable elbow dislocations: the description and cadaveric feasibility study of a new surgical technique
INTRODUCTION A small proportion of simple elbow dislocations are grossly unstable and joint congruence is not maintained after reduction. In this rare situation operative treatment is indicated. We describe a new intra articular reconstruction that utilises a slip of triceps tendon to provide immediate stability to the elbow. METHODS We assessed 20 cadaveric elbows, measuring the length of tr...
متن کاملCombined surgical treatment for missed rupture of triceps tendon associated with avulsion of the ulnar collateral ligament and flexor-pronator muscle mass
Triceps tendon ruptures are rare injuries. Coexistence of ipsilateral ulnar collateral ligament injury is even rarer. Here, we describe an unusual combination injury to elbow of a 39-year-old male construction worker consisting of triceps tendon rupture, avulsion of elbow ulnar collateral ligament and flexor pronator muscle origin ipsilaterally. A simultaneous repair and reconstruction of all d...
متن کاملTriceps Tendon Avulsion: A Rare Injury
BACKGROUND Triceps tendon avulsion is one of the rare tendinous injuries. Such injuries can easily be missed, and should be kept as a differential diagnosis in all patients who present with pain and swelling at the back of the elbow after a traumatic event. CASE DETAILS We present a case of triceps tendon avulsion which was missed in the initial workup by a local practitioner. Careful physica...
